About This Specimen

Petroleum Quartz, a carbon containing quartz, is characterized by the inclusion of crude oil within the crystal structure.  It is created in high temperature and high-pressure growth environments, allowing liquid to be trapped within the quartz. These stones fluoresce under UV light.  This particular specimen showcases a pocket of petroleum quartz nestled inside druzy botryoidal quartz.  The small needle-like points fluoresce a bright orange under UV.  There are also some single needle crystals scattered throughout that also fluoresce.
